I honestly don’t know on this one, I mean what was the bus driver doing wrestling with kids in the first place? But, 4th degree sexual assault from a possibly innocent event doesn’t sound cool either. It makes me wonder what the inappropriate contact was because the article is vague.
What do you think?? Could this have been innocent in your opinion?

I actually don’t like that they give people the ability to work with other peoples children as a second chance. Yes, I am all for second chances generally, but nobody wants there children to be the guinea pigs in this situation where the person doing the work is on second chance from drug charges or sexual assault on children charges.
Here is a story of it all going bad, where the person getting a second chance became a bus driver. It is a terrible story.

I don’t say that drivers are unappreciated or under appreciated really, we are appreciated well enough. That is until it is your child that misbehaves on the bus at that point we become no good at all. I have come to understand this though and actually appreciate it somewhat.
I think bus drivers are appreciated about 100 times more than truck drivers though, I tell someone I am a bus driver and they usually go “Oh my, how do you do it?” or something of the like. I tell someone I am a truck driver and I sort of get the same because I am a female though, not because they really wonder. People are basically rude to truck driver’s way more than they are school bus drivers. Anyways…back to my original reason for this post.
The story of the Mesa driver that took the kids hostage really got someone’s attention though because today, bus drivers and the lack of appreciation for bus drivers made the editorial section. Here, check it out.

This is terrible. My grandma who lives about an hour away from this one actually told me about this and I had to go searching for this little tiny clip about it. I guess they all park their busses at a bus garage and a driver was walking across the lot in the snow and another driver just run her over without seeing her.
This is so traumatic and terrible that it affected people hours away and so much so that my grandma was feeling for them.
This is how it was when the driver was killed during the fire drill in my district, that will be a day that I never forget for my whole life. I was 3 busses behind and didn’t see basically anything, thank goodness. I am such a woose.

That was probably all that these Mesa students needed to do. I in my mind think that this whole situation is comical and they are calling it a hostage situation. I’ll take you home when you behave sure seems life threatening to me. I know, I know… I shouldn’t laugh.
Ok, so I am guilty of stopping my bus and saying “We aren’t moving until everyone is in there correct seats!”. It usually takes all of 10 seconds though. I have never done this at an actual bus stop though with on looking parents. I have done it on a back road though and did sit for about 4 or 5 minutes, although for the majority of the minutes. I sat in my seat not saying a word. I let the students all do the talking, it was a very loud time.
I wonder everytime a student steps on a bus, is that a hostage situation though? I won’t let them off unless it is at there home, so in a way I guess every day my job is a hostage keeper.
Anyways, what do you think??

I personally am an advocate for the use of cell phones in general. They are a great safety device according to me. I can’t tell you how many times I have called 911 from my cell while driving. Well, I could if I really thought about it.
I have for example twice this week. I can say the one time was when I was going to get Kyra from Adam’s the guy that got off the exit ramp in front of me was obliviously intoxicated. He went ahead and just drove into the cement wall barrier of the highway.
Anyways, I also occasionally use my cell phone from my bus when there are no students on board. I never use it with students on board. This is a law just targeted to school bus drivers though making it a huge fine to talk on cell even when bus is empty of students.
It sort of makes me upset that they want to separate out school bus drivers or big truck drivers or any segregation for that part from general drivers for “special” rules. I mean I am okay with all the extra training requirements and such…to get the endorsements. I am okay with the yearly physical which basically is stupid and now they know I can squat. I am not okay though with special limits which general drivers hardly know of and that make the job more restricting.
These laws to me basically saying…you are responsible enough to watch 70 students while driving down the road, but how can you handle talking and driving. You can scream at kids while driving, but not whisper to a close friend through a phone. Does that make any sense??

This driver is being charged for not breaking up a fight on her bus. I guess if I was told that there was going to be a fight on my bus, they would be charging me too. I am not saying that the kid would have 4 chipped teeth and all that, but I simply wouldn’t believe them for the most part. That a fight was even going to happen.
I would pull over scream, yell, and make them all sit up front. They would all get off the bus though as planned. I would call my boss and tell him about it and write them all up the next day.
I don’t know what was expected of this driver, she was inexperienced you can say just from her age of 24. You can’t drive a school bus until you are 21, so she had less than 3 years driving. I don’t know if I would have handled this situation correctly and surely 3 years ago, I probably wouldn’t have.
What do you think? Is this a felony child neglect case?? I personally don’t think it is…if that isn’t apparent. I think this is a case to use in our driver training programs. Teach us…what to do.

Being a substitute bus driver is way harder than being on a regular route. I know this from being a substitute bus driver for over 2 years. I was required to know almost all the roads in our school district and read my written notes, all while watching children whom were going to be testing there limits with me.
I now have a regular route and basically know each kids name and can vision where they live just by glancing at them. This is all luxury that the substitutes don’t have.
Students that misbehave on my bus with a substitute get written up twice because I have the substitute write them up and then I go ahead and write them up as well. It makes it go generally my substitute has no issues as all my kids know what the deal is.
Anyways, all that doesn’t make an excuse for a substitute driver to let a 2nd grader off miles from there home. That is what this driver did. I think it has to be illegal and chargeable for some sort of something this one. I can’t imagine letting another student off as well, to escort the walking…. It is all very confusing. I’ll be watching to see if any updates come for this article though.
I am very confused basically, but sad that this happened. Why on earth??

Ok, so I am an almost complete non-drinker lets get that straight. I do a whole lot of designated driving though, so I see quite a few drinkers and do on occasion have some of my own drinks. Mine are usually at home with no need to be driven anywhere though.
Anyways, this one sort of makes me sick to my stomach because I am around drunks frequently. This driver apparently kept his booze right beside him on the bus an open container no less. I guess for when the kids are acting up…he can have a swallow. Isn’t that terrible?? I can’t imagine this honestly. Can you??

Here is a school bus driver who was charged with trafficking cocaine. She is suspended from her driving job for now. It doesn’t say that she was distributing it to children or anything, but this is something that is crazy for a bus driver to be involved in.
I seem to be on a money rant here lately though and I can imagine that she was probably doing it for money though. She must be majorly broke now though that she was caught and who will hire this poor lady??
This is a huge tragedy though.
